Listen to Nature

I once had a yoga teacher tell me that this time of year, we should listen to nature.  It is when things start to slow down and hibernate, and instead we humans rush around and make this a very busy time of year.

When I was a kid, I would get sick every Christmas.  It was too much for me.  Too much excitement, too much activity, too much of everything.  This was why Halloween was my favorite holiday, I think.

When I had Tate, I started to like Christmas again.  By then, I had figured out how to avoid getting caught up in the "too much" and it was fun to make things magical for him.  Now with 2 kiddos, I enjoy the holidays even more.

We have had a rough few months.  I can feel myself fight the pressure to be busy with what I know works best for me....quiet, calmness, staying at home.

How do you feel about the holiday season?

Hi Cat,
I too have learned to use winter as a season of rest. While nature rests, I've learned, it's good for me to rest, reflect, rejuvenate and prepare for the busier seasons of spring and summer. I spent a lot of time in solitude and silence intentionally trying to keep at bay the "breathlessness" of the Christmas season. I think making an effort to keep things "magical" is a wonderful way to be intentional about the things you say "yes" to and the things you say "no" to during this, the most "wonderful time of the year"!

I have done most of my shopping online and it is awesome! So nice to be in the store and feel the hustle and bustle of the season. Instead sit in my PJs stare at my Christmas tree and relax (oh plus it is freezing out). Hope you guys are loving MN! Miss you my friend.
